Faculty self-appraisal

This article describes a specified procedure for faculty self-appraisal based on setting reasonable goals, identifying resources for the evaluation of those goals, and selecting appropriate self-evaluative tools. It is recommended that goals for personal improvement be considered from the perspectives of one's own ambitions as well as significant others involved in the evaluation of faculty performance. Successful faculty tap the resources of administration, institution, and publications in selecting self-appraisal measures. A comprehensive evaluative system would include measures for appraisal of teaching, teaching-related activities, service, and research.
