Abstract:
1) A great amount of glycogen is present in the syncytium of the villus and in the fibroblastic and Hoffbauer's cells of the mesenchymal core. 2) PAS-positive diastase-insoluble material, probably to be ascribed to the chorionic glycoprotein, is present, on the other hand, in the syncytial collar and in the basal region of the syncytial cytoplasm. 3) The higly argyrophil reticulum of the villus stroma is PAS-negative.
