Summary

This study compared C-reactive protein levels in patients with and without temporal arteritis. Researchers found that C-reactive protein was elevated in most untreated patients with the disease. It was also more sensitive than erythrocyte sedimentation rate in tracking corticosteroid effectiveness. After treatment, some patients still had elevated levels, depending on therapy adequacy. The study suggests C-reactive protein could be a better tool for monitoring this condition. The findings may help improve diagnosis and treatment strategies for temporal arteritis.
