    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the performance of four stereoacuity tests in normal and strabismic-anisometropic children.
    • To determine the over-referral and under-referral rates of these tests.
    • To assess the testability of young children using these diagnostic tools.

    • Sixty children (ages 2-7) were divided into normal and strabismic-anisometropic groups.
    • Four stereoacuity tests (RDE, Randot, Titmus, TNO) were administered to all subjects.
    • Performance, referral rates, and testability were analyzed for each group and test.

    • Significant performance differences were observed between the two groups across all tests.
    • Over-referral rates ranged from 10-17%, while under-referral rates were high at 33-37%.
    • Untestability varied from 3.3-6.7% in normal children and 3.3-20.0% in the patient group.

    • The high under-referral rate raises concerns about the clinical utility of current stereoacuity tests for young children.
    • These tests may not be sensitive enough to detect subtle binocular vision deficits.
    • Improved screening methods are necessary for early identification of visual problems in pediatric populations.
