    Summary

    This report details a rare traumatic internal carotid artery (ICA) aneurysm after hypophysectomy. Only four similar intracranial aneurysms linked to ear or nose surgery were found in literature reviews.

    Background:

    • Intracranial aneurysms are abnormal blood vessel bulges in the brain.
    • Surgical interventions, particularly those involving the head and neck, carry potential risks.

    • A case of traumatic aneurysm of the internal carotid artery (IC) is presented.

    • A comprehensive literature review identified only four previously reported cases of intracranial aneurysms associated with ear and nose surgeries.
    • These cases included aneurysms following nasal polypectomy, ethmoidectomy (partial intra-nasal and trans-antral), hypophysectomy, and mastoidectomy.
    • The current case adds to the limited evidence of post-surgical intracranial aneurysms.

    Implications:

    • This case highlights a rare but serious complication of hypophysectomy.
    • Understanding the risk of traumatic aneurysms after head and neck procedures is crucial for surgical planning.
    • Further investigation into the mechanisms and prevention of such aneurysms may be warranted.
