    Summary

    Cat allergy is primarily caused by allergen 1 found in saliva and pelt extracts, not serum or urine. Other proteins play a minor role in allergic reactions.

    Background:

    • Cat allergy is a common condition affecting many individuals.
    • Previous studies have identified various proteins in cat allergens.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To identify and characterize the major allergenic components in cats.
    • To investigate the origin of allergens found in cat pelt extracts.

    Main Methods:

    • Crossed immunoelectrophoresis (CIE) was used to analyze antigenic proteins.
    • Crossed radioimmunoelectrophoresis (CRIE) and RAST were employed to assess allergenic activity.
    • Proteins from cat pelt extracts and saliva were compared.

    • Allergen 1 was identified as the most significant allergenic component.
    • Albumin and other unidentified proteins were found to have minor allergenic roles.
    • Allergen 1 was not detected in cat serum or urine.
