    Male rats exposed to radiation showed a significant 9.2% decrease in G tolerance, impacting their ability to withstand acceleration stress. Arterial pressure was not significantly affected by the radiation exposure.

    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the combined effects of radiation exposure and +Gz acceleration on physiological tolerance in male hooded rats.
    • To assess changes in G tolerance and mean arterial pressure following irradiation.

    Main Methods:

    • Male hooded rats were exposed to 2100 rad of 60Co radiation.
    • 18 hours post-irradiation, rats were subjected to +Gz acceleration until heart rate decreased by 50%.
    • Carotid mean arterial pressure was measured in a separate, anesthetized group 18 hours post-irradiation.
