Abstract:
In our days a horseshoe kidney is no longer a technical problem for urologists. The question of doing a division of the isthmus is now answered: it's of less benefit, but the complication rate increases. Overlooking our own cases, we emphasize the importance of combine a pyelolithotomy with pyeloplasty. The various indications to operate are discussed: if there is no pathological change in the horseshoe kidney, the patient must not be operated solely for the relief of pain. If there is a pathological change without clinical symptoms, the kidney should be operated if function decreases. There is no question about operation of an obstructed horseshoe kidney, without stone, if there are clinical findings.
