    Background:

    • Cluster headache is characterized by severe unilateral head or facial pain, often accompanied by autonomic symptoms.
    • The sphenopalatine ganglion is implicated in the pathophysiology of cluster headaches.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To describe a novel technique for alcohol infiltration of the sphenopalatine ganglion.
    • To evaluate the efficacy of this technique in managing cluster headache symptoms.

    Main Methods:

    • A supra-zygomatic approach was used for alcohol infiltration of the sphenopalatine ganglion.
    • Technique involved neurostimulation of the maxillary nerve and bone contact with the pterygoid process.
    • 120 patients with cluster headache were treated and followed for 6 months to 4 years.

    Main Results:

    • Over 85% of patients experienced relief from pain and parasympathetic disturbances.
    • Sustained pain relief and reduction in autonomic symptoms were observed in the majority of cases.
