    Summary

    The kanamycin fragment, 3-aminoglucose (kanosamine), did not affect cochlear function in guinea pigs. However, kanamycin itself significantly reduced cochlear microphonic potentials, indicating ototoxicity.

    Background:

    • Kanamycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic known for its ototoxic potential.
