    Summary

    Plasmapheresis did not improve ocular symptoms in myasthenia gravis patients, despite reducing acetylcholine receptor (AChR) antibodies. Prednisone, however, led to significant clinical improvement, suggesting different treatment mechanisms.

    Background:

    • Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune disorder affecting neuromuscular junctions.
    • Ocular signs are common residual symptoms post-thymectomy in MG patients.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the efficacy of plasmapheresis in treating post-thymectomy ocular signs in MG.
    • To investigate the correlation between acetylcholine receptor (AChR) antibody titers and clinical status.
    • To compare the effects of plasmapheresis and prednisone in this patient cohort.

    Main Methods:

    • Five MG patients with residual ocular signs post-thymectomy were treated with plasmapheresis.
    • AChR antibody titers were monitored.
    • Clinical response was assessed.
    • Patients subsequently received prednisone treatment.
