    Summary

    Cholesterol metabolism in hypercholesterolemic rabbits showed suppressed synthesis but increased esterification in xanthoma tissues. Serum fatty acids are key for cholesterol esterification, primarily via acyl-coenzyme A:cholesterol acyltransferase.
