Functional consequences of altered blood oxygen affinity
Summary
An acute left shift in the oxygen dissociation curve (ODC) impaired shock tolerance and survival in animal models. Increased blood flow compensated for higher oxygen affinity, but hypoxia resulted when blood flow was fixed.
