    Summary

    Gastric acid secretion and hormone level tests cannot replace endoscopy for diagnosing peptic ulcers but offer insights into gastric function. Concurrent measurement of serum pepsinogen I and creatinine aids in evaluating hypergastrinemia.

    • Specific patterns of gastrin and pepsinogen I levels aid in diagnosing gastrinoma and antral gastrin cell hyperfunction.
    • Measuring serum pepsinogen I and creatinine is a valuable first step for evaluating hypergastrinemia.
