[Obstruction of the venae cavae: surgical considerations (author's transl)]

In cases of obstruction of the superior or inferior vena cava--or of both the caval veins--it is always necessary to find out whether surgical therapy is indicated. In relatively rare cases it is possible to achieve better results by means of operative treatment than with conservative therapy only.
