Unresponsiveness of human gastrointestinal smooth muscle to SRS-A
Abstract:
Isolated longitudinal smooth muscle preparations from human gastrointestinal tissue were examined for contractile responsiveness to SRS-A (slow-reacting substance of anaphylaxis), histamine and acetylcholine. Although these tissues responded well to histamine and acetylcholine, they generally failed to respond to concentrations of SRS-A which elicit marked contractions of human airway tissue. There is, therefore, no evidence of a role for SRS-A in the control of gastrointestinal motility in man.
