[Cause and manifestations of amniotic malformations (author's transl)]

An account is given to morphological manifestations of amniotic malformations in the regions of extremities, head, and trunk. The incidence recorded was 1:13,000 (or 0.008 percent). -Definition and differentiation were based on Schwalbe's criteria. Aetiology and pathogenesis of such rare abnormalities are discussed with reference to literature. Histological results have supported the assumption that whenever it comes to the buildup of an amniotic membrane placopathy with dissection of internal placental membranes between the connective tissue layer of the amnion and the membrana chorii should be taken into consideration.
