[Alpha cholesterol in ischemic heart disease and myocardial infarct]
Insights
Lower alpha-cholesterol levels are linked to myocardial infarction risk. This study found reduced alpha-cholesterol in patients with ischemic heart disease, suggesting it as an indirect atherosclerosis risk factor.
Area of Science:
- Cardiology
- Biochemistry
Background:
- Alpha-cholesterol is recognized as a risk factor for myocardial infarction.
- Atherosclerosis and ischemic heart disease are significant cardiovascular conditions.
Purpose of the Study:
- To investigate the relationship between alpha-cholesterol levels and myocardial infarction in patients with ischemic heart disease.
- To determine if reduced alpha-cholesterol can serve as an indirect risk factor.
Main Methods:
- The study involved 48 patients diagnosed with ischemic heart disease and myocardial infarction (40-60 years old).
- A control group of 93 subjects (40-60 years old) was included for comparison.
- Alpha-cholesterol levels were measured in both patient and control groups.
Main Results:
- Patients with myocardial infarction exhibited lower alpha-cholesterol values compared to the control group.
- These findings align with existing scientific literature on cholesterol and heart disease.
Conclusions:
- Reduced alpha-cholesterol levels may indicate an indirect risk factor for atherosclerosis.
- Lower alpha-cholesterol is associated with the manifestation of ischemic heart disease and myocardial infarction.
Abstract:
Alpha-cholesterol is one of the risk factors for the manifestation of myocardial infarction. The authors examined 48 patients with ischemic heart disease, complicated with myocardial infarction, 28 males and 20 females, aged from 40 to 60, treated at the Clinic of Cardiovascular Diseases with Intensive Unit, RIID--Med. Academy. Ninety three control subjects were examined for a comparison--43 males and 50 females, aged from 40 to 60. Lower alpha-cholesterol values were found in the patients with myocardial infarction. Those data coincide with the communications in literature. Alpha-cholesterol reduction could be assessed as an indirect risk factor of a atherosclerosis, ischemic heart disease resp.
