    Area of Science:

    • Neurology
    • Pathology
    • Infectious Diseases

    Background:

    • Tuberculosis (TB) remains a significant global health challenge, particularly in pediatric populations.
    • Disseminated miliary tuberculosis involves widespread dissemination of Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
    • Tuberculous meningitis is a severe form of TB affecting the central nervous system.

    Observation:

    • A 1.5-year-old child presented with clinical signs suggestive of disseminated tuberculosis.
    • Necropsy examination was performed to investigate the cause of death and extent of disease.

    Findings:

    • A solitary intrinsic tuberculoma was discovered within the left optic nerve.
    • The tuberculoma was associated with tuberculous meningitis and disseminated miliary tuberculosis.

    Implications:

    • This case underscores the potential for ocular and neurological complications in pediatric TB.
    • Optic nerve involvement can lead to visual impairment and requires consideration in TB management.
    • Early diagnosis and comprehensive treatment are crucial for improving outcomes in children with severe TB.
