    • To investigate the carcinogenic effects of benzo(a)pyrene (BP) in Swiss mice.
    • To determine tumor induction in the intestines following BP administration.
    • To compare the effects of single versus repeated BP instillations.

    Main Methods:

    • Swiss mice were administered benzo(a)pyrene (BP) via intracolonic instillation.
    • Two experimental groups received single or ten weekly instillations.
    • Dosage was 200 microgram/g body weight.

    Main Results:

    • A single BP dose induced malignant lymphomas and forestomach tumors.
    • Repeated BP instillations also caused esophageal, anal, and skin neoplasms.
    • Intestinal tumors were not observed in any experimental group.

    • Benzo(a)pyrene (BP) is a potent carcinogen inducing tumors in multiple organs.
    • The route and frequency of BP administration influence tumor spectrum.
    • BP did not induce intestinal tumors under the tested experimental conditions.
