    Summary

This study used neutron activation analysis (NAA) to identify 14 new trace elements in human amniotic fluid. Findings suggest Rubidium (Rb) and Bromine (Br) may be essential trace elements for human development.

    Area of Science:

    • Trace element analysis
    • Human reproductive biology
    • Analytical chemistry

    Context:

    • Human amniotic fluid composition is crucial for fetal development.
    • Understanding trace element presence and function is vital for prenatal health.
    • Previous studies have not comprehensively identified all trace elements in amniotic fluid.

    Purpose:

    • To identify and quantify trace elements in human amniotic fluid using Neutron Activation Analysis (NAA).
    • To investigate the potential roles of newly identified trace elements in fetal development.
    • To test the hypothesis that Rubidium (Rb) and Bromine (Br) are essential trace elements.

    Summary:

    • Neutron Activation Analysis (NAA) was employed to detect 14 previously unidentified trace elements in human amniotic fluid.
    • The study provides quantitative data on the presence of these elements.
    • Results indicate that Rubidium (Rb) and Bromine (Br) may play essential roles, supporting existing hypotheses.

    Impact:

    • Expands the known elemental composition of human amniotic fluid.
    • Provides foundational data for future research into the biological significance of trace elements during gestation.
    • May influence understanding of prenatal nutrition and developmental health by highlighting potential essential elements like Rb and Br.
