[Transient acantholytic dermatosis (Grover) (author's transl)]

F Horn, W Gebhart, T Luger

Annales De Dermatologie Et De Venereologie
    |June 1, 1978
    PubMed
    Summary

Transient Acantholytic Dermatosis (TAD) presents with small, itchy papules and vesicles. Histological and ultrastructural findings reveal characteristic acantholysis and intercellular space widening, aiding diagnosis.

    Area of Science:

    • Dermatology
    • Histopathology
    • Ultrastructural Pathology

    Context:

    • Transient Acantholytic Dermatosis (TAD), first described by Grover in 1970, is a rare skin condition.
    • Clinical presentation includes small, erythematous papules and vesicles, often pruritic, primarily on the trunk and limbs.

    Purpose:

    • To detail the histological and ultrastructural features of Transient Acantholytic Dermatosis.
    • To correlate clinical findings with microscopic observations in two patient cases.

    Summary:

    • Patients presented with 2-4 mm papules and grouped follicular vesicles on the upper body, arms, and thighs.
    • Histopathology demonstrated acantholysis, intraepidermal vesicles, hyperkeratosis, parakeratosis, and dermal inflammatory infiltrates.
    • Ultrastructural analysis revealed desmosomal rarefaction, widened intercellular spaces, tonofibril fragments, and occasional Civatte bodies.

    Impact:

    • Provides detailed histopathological and ultrastructural insights into TAD.
    • Highlights the diagnostic value of microscopic examination for this condition.
    • Suggests TAD may be underdiagnosed and encourages further recognition.
