    Area of Science:

    • Medical Imaging
    • Computed Tomography (CT)

    Background:

    • Detector balancing is crucial for accurate CT image quality.
    • Existing methods may have limitations in complex scanning scenarios.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To outline requirements for software-based detector balancing in multi-detector CT.
    • To present a novel technique for simultaneous translation and rotation CT scanners.

    Main Methods:

    • Discusses general and specific requirements for software balancing.
    • Details a technique using data acquired during the scan.
    • Employs simultaneous translation and rotation of the source/detector package.

    Main Results:

    • The technique achieves exact balancing offset and gain factors within noise limits.
    • Redundancy in solutions allows for expanded statistical sampling.
    • Detector imbalance artifacts are suppressed to the level of quantum noise.

    Conclusions:

    • The presented technique effectively suppresses detector imbalance artifacts.
    • This method enhances image quality in multi-detector CT by minimizing noise-related artifacts.
