    Summary

    Aeromonas hydrophila can cause eye infections, particularly in contact lens wearers and those with eyelid or tear duct issues. Prompt antibiotic treatment, such as chloramphenicol, led to satisfactory outcomes in most infected patients.

    • Two patients without clinical signs of infection had swabs taken during ocular surgery (cataract extraction and lensectomy/vitrectomy).

    • Satisfactory outcomes were observed in patients with A. hydrophila colonization and the patient with acute conjunctivitis.
    • Treatment involved chloramphenicol, with or without gentamicin.

    Implications:

    • This study highlights Aeromonas hydrophila as a potential cause of ocular infections.
    • Effective antibiotic therapy can lead to positive patient outcomes.
    • Further research is needed to understand the full spectrum of A. hydrophila ocular pathogenicity.
