Background:

Social interest is a key concept in Adlerian psychology.
Assessing social interest is crucial for understanding personality and social adjustment.
Limited research exists on the construct validity of social interest measures in clinical populations.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate the construct validity of the Social Interest Index (SII).
To examine the relationship between the SII and various psychological and social variables in hospitalized male alcoholics.

Administered the SII to 140 hospitalized male alcoholics.
Correlated SII scores with measures of social traits, mental health, intelligence, education, locus of control, and MMPI pathology scales.

The SII showed significant positive correlations with measures of social desirability, mental health, intelligence, education, and internal locus of control.
The SII also exhibited expected negative correlations with certain MMPI pathology scales.
