    Area of Science:

    • Nephrology
    • Surgical Techniques

    Background:

    • Open renal biopsy is a diagnostic procedure.
    • Minimizing complications and improving efficiency are key goals in renal biopsy techniques.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the efficacy and safety of open renal biopsy using KAWAMURA-modified forceps.
    • To compare this technique with previous open biopsy methods.

    Main Methods:

    • Performed 107 cases of open renal biopsy under general anesthesia using KAWAMURA-modified forceps.
    • Collected renal tissues for histology, immunofluorescence, and electron microscopy.

    Main Results:

    • Sufficient renal tissue for all analyses was obtained in all 107 cases.
    • No complications were reported.
    • The procedure was noted to be easier and faster than previous techniques.

    Conclusions:

    • KAWAMURA-modified forceps enable an easier and faster open renal biopsy.
    • This method is safe and yields adequate tissue for comprehensive histopathological examination.
