[Late results of radical treatment in rectal cancer]

Five and ten year results of the radical surgical treatment for rectal cancer were studied in 107 followed up patients. Fourty one patients (47.7%) survived 5 years and longer, 28 patients (36.6)--10 years and longer. Late results after radical operations in the upper ampullar localization of a tumor were better compared with the results of treatment of low ampullar tumors. A 5-year survival with the process in the anal region was 30.2%, in the ampullar region--56.5%, in rectosigmoid--75%, late results being dependent on the stage of the process. In stage 1 out of 8 followed up patients 7--survived 5 years and over without any recurrences and metastases (87.5%), 6 patients--10 years and longer (75%). In stage II 14 of 20 followed up patients survived 5 years and longer--70%; 11 patients--10 years and over--55%. In stage III out of 55 patients 20 survived more then 5 years--36.3%, 11 patients--10 years and longer--20%. Adenocarcinomas show the most benign course, a 5-year survival in adenocarcinomas was 52%, while none of 18 patients with mucous and solid cancer survived 5 years.
