    Background:

    • Chronic otitis media (COM) is a common pediatric condition.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the polymicrobial bacteriology of COM in children.
    • To compare the diagnostic accuracy of middle ear aspirates versus external auditory canal swabs.

    • Middle ear aspirates and external auditory canal swabs were collected from 68 children with COM.
    • Specimens were cultured aerobically and anaerobically.
    • Bacterial isolates were identified and quantified.
