[Early prognosis in patients with recent myocardial infarct]
Insights
Prognosis for acute myocardial infarction is improved by combining hemodynamic parameters. Cardiac work index and cardiac work offer the most reliable early indicators before cardiogenic shock develops.
Area of Science:
- Cardiology
- Cardiovascular Physiology
Context:
- Acute transmural myocardial infarction presents a significant risk for cardiogenic shock.
- Early and accurate prognostic assessment is crucial for patient management.
Purpose:
- To identify reliable hemodynamic parameters for early prognosis in acute myocardial infarction patients.
- To determine the combination of parameters that best predicts outcomes before cardiogenic shock onset.
Summary:
- Hemodynamic studies were conducted on 50 acute myocardial infarction patients.
- Combining specific hemodynamic parameters, notably cardiac work index and cardiac work, enables reliable early prognosis.
- Accurate prediction is achievable prior to the development of cardiogenic shock.
Impact:
- This research provides clinicians with valuable tools for early risk stratification in myocardial infarction.
- Improved prognostic accuracy can guide timely therapeutic interventions, potentially reducing mortality and morbidity associated with cardiogenic shock.
Abstract:
Hemodynamic studies were performed in a total of 50 patients suffering from acute transmural myocardial infarction. The aim of these studies was to find hemodynamic parameters permitting at an early stage a reliable prognosis. Our results show that only by combining hemodynamic parameters an accurate prognosis can be made before the onset of cardiogenic shock. The most reliable statement can be made by means of cardiac work index and cardiac work.
