    Summary

    The anterior chamber intraocular lens shows more complications and lower visual acuity post-implantation compared to other lens types. Some intraocular lens complications were less frequent than in control cases.

    Background:

    • Intraocular lenses (IOLs) have been regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) since 1978.
    • Over 177,000 IOLs across four classes were implanted by August 1979.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To analyze the safety and efficacy of different intraocular lens classes.
    • To compare postoperative complications and visual acuity associated with anterior chamber IOLs versus other IOL types and control operations.

    • Analysis of data on 177,503 implanted intraocular lenses reported to the FDA.
