    Summary

    This study found that combining radiation therapy with radical prostatectomy and pelvic lymphadenectomy is a safe and effective treatment for advanced prostate cancer (stages B and C). Minimal surgical complications and disease spread were observed in most patients.

    Background:

    • Advanced prostate cancer (clinical stages B and C) requires effective treatment strategies.
    • Combined modality treatments are being explored to improve outcomes for prostate cancer patients.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the safety and efficacy of neoadjuvant radiotherapy followed by radical retropubic prostatectomy and pelvic lymphadenectomy in patients with stages B and C prostate cancer.

    Main Methods:

    • Eighteen patients with clinical stages B and C prostate cancer received radiotherapy to the prostate.
    • Following radiotherapy, patients underwent radical retropubic prostatectomy and pelvic lymphadenectomy.

    Main Results:

    • Only 2 out of 18 patients (1 with grade 1, 1 with grade 4) had no residual local cancer post-surgery.
