A simple method for the routine measurement of glycosylated haemoglobin

The measurement of glycosylated haemoglobin in diabetic patients represents a new approach to long-term control of blood sugar levels. A rapid, simple and accurate assay is described, which requires no costly specialized equipment or highly trained staff. Readily available containers are used as columns. Glycosylated haemoglobin is eluted from the weak cation exchange resin (BioRex 70) by a low ionic strength phosphate buffer pH 6,8 and normal haemoglobin by a subsequent high ionic strength buffer pH 6,4.
