The technical hazards and long- and short-term complications of epidural analgesia are discussed, as well as how to avoid or treat them. Most may be avoided by careful patient selection and a flawless technique based on the skill and experience of the informed epiduralist. Expertise in cardiopulmonary resuscitative technique is also a prerequisite.
