    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To characterize the incidence, signalment, clinicopathologic findings, and metastatic patterns of primary hepatic neoplasms in dogs.
    • To differentiate between various types of primary liver tumors in a large necropsy cohort.

    • Retrospective analysis of 12,245 canine necropsies.

    • Age, sex, enzyme ratios, gross appearance, and metastatic patterns can help distinguish between hepatocellular carcinoma, bile duct carcinoma, carcinoid, and sarcoma.
    • Further research into the specific etiologies and treatment strategies for these canine liver tumors is warranted.
