    Background:

    • Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is a serious gastrointestinal condition affecting premature infants.
    • Identifying bacterial pathogens is crucial for understanding NEC pathogenesis and clinical outcomes.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To identify bacterial pathogens in infants diagnosed with NEC.
    • To compare the clinical course and virulence of different bacterial species, specifically Clostridia versus gram-negative enteric bacteria, in NEC patients.
