[Pancreatic exocrine function in stomach cancer after a gastrectomy]

Abstract:
Pancreatic secretion was studied using a fractionated-kinetic technic in 32 gastric cancer patients prior to surgery and in 106 patients following partial gastrectomy within the period of 2 weeks, 1 year, from 1 to 3 years longer. The immediate postoperative period showed the greatest changes in the exocrinous function of the pancreas. An improved exocrine function during a period over 3 years after gastrectomy indicates the pancreas taking part in the compensatory-adaptation process after the operation. A comparison of the pancreatic secretion in groups of gastrectomized-patients operated upon with and without preservation of the duodenal passage of food has shown an insignificant advantage of favour of the former group.
