    Background:

    • Appendicitis is a frequent cause of emergency room visits for abdominal pain.
    • Accurate and timely diagnosis is crucial for effective treatment and preventing complications.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To establish diagnostic criteria for appendicitis in patients presenting with nontraumatic abdominal pain.
    • To review presenting signs, symptoms, and initial laboratory data for diagnostic utility.

    Main Methods:

    • Retrospective chart review of 359 patients admitted through the emergency room.
    • Analysis of presenting signs and symptoms.
    • Evaluation of initial laboratory data.

    Main Results:

    • Key clinical features and laboratory values associated with appendicitis were identified.
    • Diagnostic patterns were established based on the reviewed data.

    Conclusions:

    • The established diagnostic criteria can aid emergency room physicians in evaluating patients with nontraumatic abdominal pain for appendicitis.
    • This study provides a framework for consistent diagnosis and management of suspected appendicitis.
