    Area of Science:

    • Pediatric Surgery
    • Neonatal Gastroenterology

    Background:

    • Gastric volvulus is a rare but serious condition in newborns.
    • Literature review identified only 11 prior cases in the first month of life.

    Observation:

    • This report details two cases of intrathoracic organoaxial gastric volvulus in infants within the first week of life.
    • Patients presented with persistent regurgitation, vomiting, and respiratory distress.

    Findings:

    • Gastric volvulus diagnosis is achievable with plain thoracoabdominal roentgenograms and upper gastrointestinal contrast studies.
    • Prompt surgical management, including gastric reduction, fixation, and anomaly repair, is crucial.

    Implications:

    • Gastric volvulus should be included in the differential diagnosis for neonates with severe gastrointestinal and respiratory symptoms.
    • Early surgical intervention yields excellent results, emphasizing the importance of timely diagnosis and treatment.
