    Background:

    • Intra-abdominal desmoid tumors are recognized complications of familial polyposis coli.
    • The co-occurrence of desmoid tumors with sigmoid colon carcinoma is not well-established.
    • Desmoid tumors present as fibrous neoplasms with unpredictable growth patterns.

    Observation:

    • A patient presented with symptoms of small-bowel obstruction.
    • Diagnostic imaging revealed an intra-abdominal desmoid tumor.
    • The tumor was found to be associated with carcinoma of the sigmoid colon.

    Findings:

    • This case represents the first reported instance of an intra-abdominal desmoid tumor associated with sigmoid colon carcinoma.
    • The desmoid tumor's presentation mimicked other intra-abdominal pathologies, leading to delayed diagnosis of the underlying malignancy.
    • Histopathological examination confirmed the coexistence of both neoplastic entities.

    Implications:

    • This finding expands the known clinical spectrum of desmoid tumors.
    • Highlights the importance of considering desmoid tumors in the differential diagnosis of bowel obstruction, especially in the presence of colorectal cancer.
    • Suggests a potential shared pathway or interaction between desmoid tumorigenesis and colorectal carcinogenesis that warrants further investigation.
