    A rare Vibrio parahaemolyticus strain with a positive urease reaction was found in a perforated appendix. Its role in causing diarrhea remains uncertain, despite typical V. parahaemolyticus characteristics.

    Background:

    Observation:

    • An unusual urease-positive Vibrio parahaemolyticus strain was isolated from an appendiceal perforation site.
    • This strain exhibited typical V. parahaemolyticus characteristics, including the Kanagawa phenomenon.
    • The bacterium was susceptible to multiple antibiotics, including chloramphenicol and gentamicin.
