    Summary

    Diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (Forestier's disease) can cause spinal osteophytes leading to dysphagia. Anterior cervical decompression effectively restores esophageal function in affected patients.

    • Diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (Forestier's disease) is a common spinal condition characterized by osteophyte formation.
    • A subset of patients with Forestier's disease develop spondylitic dysphagia due to esophageal compression.

    Observation:

    • This report details a case of Forestier's disease presenting with significant spondylitic dysphagia.
    • The patient's condition necessitated neurosurgical intervention.

    Findings:

    • Anterior cervical decompression was performed to alleviate the esophageal compression caused by spinal osteophytes.
    • The surgical intervention successfully restored normal esophageal function.

    Implications:

    • Forestier's disease is an important differential diagnosis for neurosurgeons evaluating patients with dysphagia.
    • Surgical decompression is an effective treatment for dysphagia secondary to spinal osteophytes in Forestier's disease.
