    Background:

    • Mesotheliomas are rare cancers, often presenting with pleural or peritoneal involvement.
    • Treatment outcomes for diffuse mesothelioma are not significantly influenced by surgery or irradiation.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the efficacy of systemic and secondary chemotherapy in patients with mesotheliomas.
    • To assess the impact of chemotherapy response on patient survival.

    Main Methods:

    • Retrospective analysis of 77 mesothelioma patients.
    • Evaluation of systemic chemotherapy response (complete response, partial response, stabilization, no response) and survival.
    • Analysis of secondary chemotherapy outcomes and survival.

    Main Results:

    • Systemic chemotherapy yielded complete or partial responses in 7 of 41 patients, with a median survival of 42.5 months.
    • 18 patients achieved stabilization (median survival 12.8 months), and 16 showed no response (median survival 4.5 months).
    • Secondary chemotherapy also demonstrated response rates and survival benefits, with statistically significant differences between responders and non-responders (P < 0.001).
