    Summary

    X-ray pelvimetry offers limited clinical value in obstetrics. Specific transverse measurements of the pelvic inlet and midpelvis may predict operative delivery, but overall, the technique provides little new information compared to alternatives.

    Background:

    • X-ray pelvimetry has a long history in obstetrics.
    • Its clinical utility in predicting delivery outcomes remains debated.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the clinical usefulness of X-ray pelvimetry.
    • To determine if specific measurements predict delivery method.

    Main Methods:

    • Review of 101 X-ray pelvimetries using Brown's modification of the Colcher-Sussman technique.
    • Analysis of anteroposterior and transverse pelvic inlet and midpelvis measurements.

    Main Results:

    • Anteroposterior measurements showed no predictive value for delivery method.
    • Transverse inlet <13.0 cm and midpelvis <10.0 cm correlated with increased operative delivery.
    • 94% of cases provided no new information; other cases' data was available via ultrasonography or scout films.

    Conclusions:

    • X-ray pelvimetry, using this specific technique, has very limited clinical usefulness in obstetrics.
    • Alternative imaging methods like ultrasonography are more efficient for obtaining necessary pelvic information.
