    Researchers identified a rare laryngeal tumor, oncocytoma, in three dogs experiencing respiratory issues. This tumor, previously undocumented in domestic animals, originates from oncocytes and presents as a solitary, protruding mass.

    Background:

    • Upper respiratory obstruction in dogs can be caused by various laryngeal masses.

    • Oncocytes, characterized by abundant granular cytoplasm rich in mitochondria, are known to form neoplasms (oncocytomas) in humans.

    Observation:

    • Three adult dogs presented with solitary, protruding laryngeal tumors.
    • Clinical signs included significant upper respiratory obstruction.

    • Histopathological examination revealed neoplasms composed of oncocytes.
    • Tumor cells exhibited abundant granular acidophilic cytoplasm due to numerous mitochondria.
    • This represents the first reported instance of oncocytoma in domestic animals.
