[Nasotracheal intubation in the non-fasting, conscious patient]

The problem of the preoperative full stomach is reviewed. Preexisting managements to prevent aspiration during induction of anaesthesia are discussed and compared with our experiences with the intubation on awake patients. This procedure gives the surgical patient the best protection from aspiration of gastric contents; the physiological reflexes are not depressed.
