    Area of Science:

    • Ophthalmology
    • Neurology
    • Neurosurgery

    Background:

    • Meningiomas can arise within the optic nerve sheath, impacting vision.
    • Optic nerve sheath meningiomas (ONSM) are rare tumors affecting visual pathways.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To review clinical characteristics and management of optic nerve sheath meningiomas.
    • To understand the demographic and symptomatic profile of patients with ONSM.

    Main Methods:

    • Retrospective case series analysis.
    • Review of 27 patients diagnosed with optic nerve sheath meningioma over 12 years.

    Main Results:

    • 27 patients diagnosed with ONSM; 21 were women aged 39-64.
    • Vision deterioration was the initial symptom in 22 patients.
    • Optic nerve head abnormalities (swelling or atrophy) were present in all cases.

    Conclusions:

    • Optic nerve sheath meningiomas predominantly affect middle-aged women.
    • Early visual symptoms and optic nerve head changes are key indicators.
    • Surgery remains the primary treatment modality for ONSM.
