A newly established cel line derived from human ovarian adenocarcinoma
Abstract:
A continuous cultured cell line, CKS, was established from the ascites of a serous cystadenocarcinoma of the ovary and has been maintained in vitro for more than 3 years. The cells grew in a medium containing human umbilical cord serum and form a monolayer in a mosaic fashion with polyhedral or angular cells of varying size together with occasional giant cells. Hemicyst formation was evident in confluent culture. The ultrastructural features noted, were well developed microvilli and poorly developed junctional complex on the cell surface associated with abundant secretory vesicles in the cytoplasm. Population doubling time obtained from the growth curve was about 79 hr. The chromosomal modal number was near-diploid with minimal aberrations. Heterotransplantation of the cells was successful in ATS-treated hamsters and athymic nude mice. Histological feature of the heterograft much resembled those of the original tumor.
