From these two experimental herein, it may be concluded that cadmium treatment for a long period causes the renal disease plus osteomalacic changes in rats similar to that seen in Itai-Itai disease, and the toxic effect of cadmium is increased markedly when animals are raised under the conditions of low-protein and calcium-deficient diets.
