[Considerations on continuing medical education]

Interest in continuing medical education appears to have increased greatly in the recent past and considerable material has been published and many national and international meetings have been held on the subject. In this article the author presents a series of comments urging the health professional to reconcile the health needs of his fellow men and the scientific progress achieved through a continuing medical education that will help him practice his profession on a realistic basis. The article ends with a summary account of developments in this area in Chile.
