[Morphological characteristics of the human iliac veins]

Intravascular formations of the iliac veins, their anastomoses with the spinal veins have been studied in 255 preparations obtained from fetuses, children and mature persons of both sex. The methods applied are: macro- and microscopic preparation, injections, histological hematoxylin--eosin staining after van Gieson, Weigert and Mallory. It has been stated that morphological apparatus regulating blood stream in the pelvic veins are the intravascular formations, on the one hand, and anastomoses of these veins with the spinal veins, on the other hand. The intravascular formations are subjected to age and sex changeability. Individual changeability of the pelvic and spinal veins connections is demonstrated in three variants: magistral, mixed and scattered. The anastomoses and intravascular formations in the pool of the iliac veins form a complex that is capable to regulate haemodynamic of this region of the venous system.
